17. Gelato from Pompei's

After devouring our yummy piadinas we headed to Pompeis to finish the meal with a sweet treat. Simon opted for the Caffe Espresso while I opted for the Stracciatella, an organic milk icecream with amedei 70% dark chocolate shreded through it and a slight coconut taste (or so I thought). Having tried a little of the Caffe I found it too strong a coffee taste for me as I'm not a huge fan of coffee deserts but it did taste exactly like drinking a strong black coffee so I can't fault the taste or the smooth consistency.

The ice cream while good was not the best I have ever tasted. Personally I prefer Messina. Having said that the recommended icecream on the list is the Amedei 70% dark chocolate extra so I will definitely go back to try one.

Unfortunately we wolfed down our ice creams before I could take a photo!

16. Piadinas from La Piadina

On Thursday we went to Bondi to check out the Sculptures by Sea but first we  headed over to La Piadina to try some of their piadinas. La Piadina is a little place with a friendly atmosphere located just a few streets back from the beach. They offer delicious piadinas and great coffees.

While Simon opted for the no 11. the tuna, cherry tomatoes, rocket and mozzarella  while I went for no. 1 the ham and provolone. While some ham and cheese toasties are heavy on the stomach and stodgy this was deliciously light. The provolone cheese was a nice mature flavour with a slight salt element to it and the ham (which is sliced to order) was simply delicious. They are served in a simple ultra thin flat bread (or piadina) which is light and very tasty. The piadinas are filled, grilled, sliced and served up on this thick wooden boards.

Its seems La Piadinas success come from taking a simple product and making it to the highest standard with quality ingredients. I will definately be back to try more delicious piadinas!

La Piadina is located at 106 Glenayr Avenue, Bondi Beach and is open Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 10pm

15. Roti Canai from Mamak

We've tried to go to Mamak for a Roti Canai a few times but every time we go there is a queue half way around the block so when I saw there stall at the Night Noodle Markets I knew I had to try this dish. Watching the guy making the Roti was an experience in itself as he whirled the paper thin dough through the air twisting and turning it then the delicate bread is folded and cooked on a griddle. The delicious naan like bread is served simply with curry and sweet chilli sauces and is absolutely delicious.

Mamak is at 15 Goulburn Street, Haymarket and is open for lunch 11:30 - 2:30 and dinner 5:30 - 10:00

14. Coffee from Single Origin Roasters

Whilst in the city last week we popped into Single Origin Roasters for a refreshing cup of coffee. Single Origin Roasters is tucked away on a small street in Surrey Hills. Although it is only a small shop Single Origin Roasters seemed very busy but we managed to bag a table and ordered some coffees. Service was friendly and efficient. We did not order any food but the food that was served around us looked very nice.

As for coffee itself, it was rich but beautifully smooth, all in all a delicious cup of coffee.

Single Origin Roasters in located at 60-64 Reservoir St, Surrey Hills and is open Mon to Fri 6:30am - 4pm

13. Eclair from Black Star Pastry

As I mentioned in my last post some of the items on the list were a little disappointing and unfortunately the Eclair from Black Star Pastry was one such item.

Black Star is a quaint little shop located on a side street in Newtown so little in fact that we walked past twice looking for the place! The shop was crammed with customers and sells an array of beautiful looking cakes and pastries.

As for the eclairs themselves for me they didn't live up to their hype. Whilst there was nothing in particular wrong with them and they were perfectly nice there was nothing outstanding about the eclairs.

Black Star Pastry is located at 277 Australia Street, Newtown and is open seven days 7am-5pm

12. Pork and Fennel Sausages from AC Butchery

On Tuesday whilst on a trip around the inner suburbs we popped into AC butchery to grab some pork and fennel sausages for dinner.

Whilst some of the items on out list have been a little disappointing these sausages certainly weren't. In fact they were obscenely good and by obscenely good I do mean so good they make you make obscene mmmm noises!  The pork and fennel sausages are deliciously meaty and filling and are probably the best sausages I've ever eaten.

AC Butchery is at 174 Marion Street, Leichhardt and is open Mon-Fri: 6am-6pm and Sat: 6am-3pm

11. Macaroons from Andrio Zumbo

After trying the delicious dumplings from Din Tai Fung yesterday we popped over to Andriano Zumbos for a sweet fix. Walking into Andriano Zumbos made me feel like a kid in a candy store. With its neon colours and dessert displays its like being in a sweet wonderland.

We headed to the back wall to pick which macaroons we wanted from all the delights that were on offer. I opted for the salted butter popcorn and the pancake and maple syrup while Simon opted for the Annunziata Chocolate and the Custard Crunch.
The macaroons were (or zumbarons) as they are called were lovingly packaged in these sweet little boxes which we soon ripped open for the tasting.
The 'Zumbarons' were deliciously light and fluffy each with distinctive flavours. The pancake and maple syrup had a doughy pancake taste with a hint of maple syrup which came through but did not overpower the taste. The salted butter popcorn tasted exactly like its description and had a crisp popcorn coating. The Annunziata Chocolate was rich dark and velvety and the custard crunch was creamy and custardy.

We will definitely be heading back to this dessert wonderland to sample even more sweet delights.
